Seville: Day 1

The beauty of Seville is in its cracks and crevices - the sandy bricks exposed beneath the once plastered and painted walls.

The endless cobble stone streets are shared by scooters, bicycles, cars, horse-drawn carriages and pedestrians. We strolled hand in hand down the street towards the river, stopped only by eager bus tour salesmen who seemed to lurk at every street corner, and snapped a few photos of Torre del Oro.

From here we explored through the endless side streets until we came across Catedral y Giralda.

There's no end to the orange trees; they are scattered through the gardens and line the streets.

I wonder if it's legal to pick the fruit? I haven't been game enough in the city's centre but stay tuned!

It was already 1pm so we decided to scout a reasonably priced restaurant...

...and found one. We took the 5 tapas for €9 deal and ordered a 1/2 litre jug of Sangría to wash it all down. But with last night's tapas as a benchmark, these didn't quite measure up (hence no photo). Mum would be proud though, I ate every last bit of the lentil stew!

We wandered back through the side streets as tunes from an amped accordion filled our ears.

In true Spanish style, we went back to the apartment for an afternoon siesta!

Showered and changed we decided to take a pre-dinner stroll - it was 8:30pm. We walked through Plaza de la Encarnación and admired the modern monument Espacio Metropol Parasol.

We admired the local buildings...

And passed a garden terrace restaurant nestled between buildings off a back street...

And soaked in the surrounds.

We were seduced to a stand still by the romantic tunes of an Andalusian guitar in a side street.

Then continued on through the narrow side streets and open squares capturing the silhouette of the Catedral..

.. Real Alcázar de Sevilla...

Before settling down for dinner at 10pm. Tapas were on the menu again; this time we opted for stuffed avocado, potatos with aioli, garlic grilled mushrooms and prosciutto. These mini burgers with crispy fries and mustard were my favourite!

Accompanied by a sizeable glass of Sangría!

A perfect laid back day - in true Andalusian style!
