Capri

I felt a wave of emotions as we walked down the winding road towards the beach for the last time.

Earlier that morning the house keeper dropped off a rolled up painting which Tiziana had sent to us with a written message from her and Antonio on the back.

It was 9:25am and everyone at the pier was seeking out their own little patch of shade to hide from the burning sun's rays. So while the pier in front of us was empty I snuck in a photo.

We were planning on sitting on the top open air level of the boat, so not wanting to burn to a crisp I bought us each a hat - matching hats!

Soon enough we were called to line up before the hydrofoil boat arrived - today's mode of transport.

Shaun dutifully minded our suitcases.

It was again with a sense of nostalgia that we said farewell to Positano. I felt that I had gotten to know her better than any other town and that we became fast friends.

I was grateful to see from her other angle as we greeted her from the ocean.

A smooth 45 minute ferry ride later...

... and 'Hello Capri!'.

Capri was bustling with people, open carriage taxis and buses. At every turn Caprinians were asking if we want a private boat ride. Boat ride? Boat ride? Private boat ride madam? It echoed in my head.

We walked 2 km uphill to dropped our luggage off at our hotel stopping to snap these two photos of the view!

We wandered back down towards the ticket office at the pier to buy tickets for the public boat to see the Island by sea (not opting to pay the private fee of €150). Instead we bought two public boat tickets from a South African traveller who wasn't able to make the boat ride. We had 30 minutes to kill and had made a €5 saving so Shaun and I stopped at a Café for an ice cold drink!

Our boat was full with people but we grabbed a seat at the very back. It was a great seat because for some reason we had more space and a better vantage point as it turned out that our skilled boat driver reversed into many of the grottos.

We enjoyed seeing the island from a different perspective and it turned out to be much larger than expected!

The water changed from light turquoise to deep blue.

We snuck in a quick kiss as we passed through the archway of the Faraglioni Rocks (it's said to be good luck!).

The water was simply stunning in La Grotta Verde (Green Grotto).

Unfortunately this boat tour didn't allow us to stop and swim - that was what the private tours were for.

There was a lot of congestion at the La Grotta Azure (Blue Grotto) which was an extra fee just to get into a row boat that rowed paying passengers in and back out.

So along with half of the passengers we boarded another boat that would take those not wanting to see the Blue Grotto back to the marina.

While we waited I looked in the opposite direction and spotted the perfect picture. Snap!

I enjoyed the gentle bobbing up and down as a got lost in the sites of the parallel cliff, deep blue sea and Mount Vesuvius in the distance.

When we docked at the marina shortly after, we caught a bus up to Capri's centra square. We have been privy to the most amazing views!

And perfectly lined vegetables (another one for you mom and dad!).

It was just after five as we toured through the square admiring the red coral jewellery, diamonds, shoes and clothes as well as the boutique lined lane ways parading Gucci, Prada, Hermes and other high end fashion stock. We also stopped to check out the photos of the rich and famous who called this their playground.

I took this particular picture of a large piece of red coral encased in glass just for my sister!

We took ourselves off to a restaurant so that we could enjoy the view some more as the sun slowly sank.

The meal was a disappointment but the view was grand!

We chatted for hours on end.

Eventually we thought we'd head back towards the hotel. So to mix things up a bit we caught a tram down the hill.

The marina was nice a quiet by this stage... A complete change from the craziness during the day. It was a great way to unwind from a very busy day!
