Positano: Day 1

With a dash of spontaneity, a teaspoon of courage, a sprinkle of humour and three generous tablespoons of grace - we arrived at B&B Liparlati in Positano!

The views in Tuscany were beautiful but these views are simply breathtaking!

Lets rewind a bit. We were planning to take the SITA Bus from Sorrento ro Positano but last minute we decided to continue on with our hire car (a dash of spontaneity).

As we navigated the windy main roads our GPS suddenly told us to take a right (a teaspoon of courage). Our hearts were in our throats. This was the tiniest cobbled stone road I have ever seen for a car to pass trough. First of all it was an uphill road that was windy and it was just wide enough to fit our Hyundai. The space between the mirrors and the walls on either side being at longest the length of an iPhone 5! I'm sorry I didn't get a photo of this but that was the last thing on our minds. As we continued up the road, the side wall jutted out and we scraped our left mirror. But Shaun continued as if nothing happened (a dash of humour) navigating the road like the pro he is! But what a relief when we came out the other side!

The main drive to Positano really wasn't as bad as we'd expected. Maybe it was because we were on the road early from 9:10am - 9:45am so traffic was lighter than usual, or because we only encountered one bus... or because we found free parking right outside the B&B on the  main road which apparently never happens (three generous tablespoons of grace).

Our host Tiziana welcomed us warmly, bringing us each cappuccinos and some pastries to induldge in on the Villa Mary veranda (Liparlati's sister B&B which Tiziana lives at and runs) as we waited for her to check out other guests.

She sat down with us and provided a detailed map of Positano making a note of restaurants to visit, beaches to see and shopping areas as well as informatively answering our bombardin myriad of questions.

After checking and dumping our luggage we took a stroll down to the beach. Stopping on the way down to admire the view and take some more happy snaps!

We spotted this man painting (Mom you would have loved to see this!). He happened to be there each subsequent day as well, painting and selling his artwork from the sidewalk.

With the fresh salt sea wind licking our faces, we both got a craving for seafood! So guess what we had for lunch?

I had the fried calamari with a fresh tomato salsa.

Shaun had his first culinary encounter with baby squid... Don't let their lack in size fool you, they were delicious!

We walked around the beach and up the north side of Positano.

We took it easy the rest of the day wondering down the roads and through the laneways admiring the view from different angles and saving our energy for the trek back up the hundreds of stairs to our little B&B.
