This is the first time during our busy travels that we're allowing ourselves to unwind a bit... So we're doing just that!
We lazed on the beach baking in the sun, enjoying a cool, salty, seawater swim with cliffside views and did some people watching. I don't truly relax until I'm reading a book so in keeping true to our word I continued reading the adventures of Charlie, Adam and Gray in Danielle Steel's Toxic Bachelors.
I might just add here that in Italy they have a public and a private each.
Public.
Private.
All the same strip of beach, the public one is 1/4 of the stretch (only separated by a dodgy fence) while the rest is private. To access the private beach, users need to pay €15 - per person! This includes a shared sun umbrella, a beach chair and towel. Indulging in a bit of shade while at the beach is a rare commodity and a valued one which is why people are willing to fork out the cash. But not us! We were happy swimming in the same water, stretching out on our towels on the same pebbly beach and bathing in the same sun's rays without forking out €30. We just didn't stay as long!
We wondered around and eventually headed back up toward our apartment. Stopping along the way to enjoy the view.
Later we called our host Tiziana and asked about the restaurants at the top of the cliffs. We opted for one which apparently had great pasta and she organised a shuttle bus to pick us up at 6:30pm - we were (rather I was) starving! You can ask Shaun, I'm always hungry.
On the dot at 6:30pm the shuttle pulled up at the bus stop, loaded us in, did a quick u-turn and took off back up the hill. Many restaurants away from the main beach area provide a free shuttle service to attract customers.
A ten minute ride and a few close calls with three different buses later we arrived at Il Ritrovo.
We were welcomed with a glass of champagne and courtesy of the chef, a plate of appetisers which included a battered, deep fried zucchini flower - delish!
Shaun and I both opted for the house special - pasta and meatballs
It was literally a warm plate of cheesy carbohydrate goodness with fresh tomato and juicy meatballs. And the pasta, al dente of course. Yumm!
Only having a small space left in our stomaches we settled for a shared dessert - gooey hot chocolate cake.
Stomaches full, we sat back and enjoyed the view as the sun sank behind the cliffs.
