Positano/Amalfi: Day 3

Amalfi is a 30 minute bus ride from Positano, so we thought - why not?

We wandered down the winding road towards the Mini Market - a tiny supermarket - to buy bus tickets. I say tiny because the shoebox size shop is stocked to the brim with overflowing items with no particular order making it feel even smaller. They were out of bus tickets but check out these lemons! Lemons on steroids (well that was the dream I had that night).

Shaun's hand and the lemon - just to show you their sheer size.

We managed to buy tickets at the small petrol station further down the road. Everything is small here - probably because of the lack of space.

While waiting at the bus stop I snapped this little house with its lemon coloured walls, pretty roof and its green overgrowth.

Not a bad place to sit and wait!

The Sita Bus was packed full! After a few stops with passengers disembarking we were able to get seats. Shaun felt a bit queasy with the bus driver tackling the windy roads and corners with full speed. We enjoyed the view below us and passed through a number of cliff side tunnels before arriving at Amalfi.

I may be biased but Positano is much prettier. It has more height and cliffs and the centre beach is not littered with dozens of buses. It's much more quaint and authentic I think.

We toured through the square taking in the sights of the church and it's tree inhabiting backdrop.

People splashed their faces with water and drank from a fountain near by.

We passed by shop after shop until I saw a fruit and veg store which sold a whole variety of fruit and vegetable seeds. It made me think of you, dad!

We meandered down the lane ways back towards the beach and found this cute restaurant, Ristorante Marina Grande, on a private beach where we could relax and enjoy the serenity.

The salty air was still giving us seafood cravings so we both ordered fried mixed seafood. We were blown away! It was even better than it looked and I'm sure you'll  agree by this photo that it looks pretty tasty!

This has jumped straight to the top as the best dish I've had so far and a genuine highlight of Amalfi!

A photo each and we were off!

We followed this with a lavender infused coconut gelato that also went down well.

We took a stroll to work off a bit of our food, stopping to enquiry about scuba diving and private boat hire.

The pier was ca and idyllic.

We decided to take the bus back. I happened to snap this one of a private beach way down below us as our crazy bus driver took a sharp turn. Pretty isn't it?

I'm glad we got to see Amalfi but I'm even happier that we picked Positano!
